NASCAR did not take away Carl Edwards' victory in Sunday's UAW-Dodge 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but it came pretty close.
Edwards will not get 10 bonus points for the victory should he qualify for this year's Chase for the Cup, NASCAR ruled in penalties announced Wednesday afternoon. That's the first time such a sanction has been employed for a post-race inspection violation.
Edwards' No. 99 Ford team also lost 100 driver and owner points, and crew chief Bob Osborne was fined $100,000 and is suspected for six races. Roush Fenway Racing can appeal the penalties.
NASCAR found the cover on Edwards' oil reservoir container loose in inspection following Sunday's race.
