Felix Sabates, a longtime Charlotte resident who is co-owner of Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, said that at first he didn’t think there was any way that Bruton Smith would move Lowe’s Motor Speedway to a new location.
“But,” Sabates said, “when you think about it, he is 80 years old and has a billion dollars. ‘You tick me off and I will go somewhere else.’
"Yeah, he’d move it.”
Sabates said he admires Smith, who recently agreed to pay $340 million to purchase New Hampshire International Speedway from Bob and Gary Bahre.
Never miss a local story.
“At his age, most people would be heading for the rocking chair,” Sabates said. ”He’s out there buying race tracks, fighting with Cabarrus County and Concord. I take my hat off to him.
“If I was his age and had as much money as he’s got I wouldn’t be doing all of that. Obviously, he enjoys what he’s doing.”
