AVONDALE, Ariz. - Doug Randolph, currently crew chief for Bobby Labonte at Petty Enterprises, will join Dale Earnhardt Inc. at the end of the season to become crew chief for rookie Paul Menard, in one of several personnel moves at DEI announced this week.
Menard’s current crew chief, Dave Charpentier, will be promoted to technical director at DEI and oversee all aspects of engineering with the four-car operation.
In addition, Walter Giles, current race engineer on the No. 1 Chevrolet, was named director of race engineering and Jason Anderson was named director of design and project engineering. Rex Garrett has been promoted to director of motorsports operations and will oversee day-to-day activities of the race shop.
“We are placing a huge emphasis on our engineering department and we are committed to improving our systems and operations, thereby ensuring that all of our teams have an opportunity to contend for championships every year,” said John Story, vice president of motorsports.
Jeff Meendering, car chief for four-time Cup champion Jeff Gordon, is a candidate to replace Randolph as crew chief for Labonte.
