David Reutimann will split time this weekend, racing in the Nextel Cup Series at Atlanta and in the Busch Series at Memphis Motorsports Park.
Memphis has special memories for Reuitimann. While he was still looking to get a foothold in NASCAR, he was asked to qualify a car for Greg Biffle because Biffle had Cup commitments.
“It was the turning point in my racing career,” Reutimann said. “I earned my first pole ... and after my run, I was able to say on national television that I was looking for a full-time opportunity.”
Not long after that, Reutimann said, Darrell Waltrip called him to offer the opportunity to drive in the Craftsman Truck Series. That led to his chance to run this year in the Cup series in cars owned by Waltrip’s brother, Michael.
Never miss a local story.
This weekend, Mark Green will do for Reutimann what Reutimann did for Biffle a few years ago, practicing in and qualifying in the car, which will have a special St. Jude Children’s Hospital paint scheme.
