Stanislaus District football players named to MaxPreps Section, NorCal teams

MaxPreps has released its All-Sac-Joaquin Section and All-Northern California football teams, and the Stanislaus District is well represented on both squads.

Central Valley running back Ja’Quan Gardner, Manteca running back Alex Laurel and Central Catholic offensive lineman Spencer Stark have been named first-team honorees on both squads.

Central Catholic coach Roger Canepa, who guided his Raiders to a second consecutive state championship last month, is the small schools Coach of the Year for both units.

Central Catholic kicker Kenny Smart was a first-team choice for the all-section team, as was Hilmar linebacker Joseph Bello. Smart and Bello were second-team picks to the NorCal lineup.

Manteca offensive lineman Billy Sharmoug was a second-teamer on both lists, and Ripon Christian running back Andrew Brown was selected for the SJS second team.

Folsom quarterback Jake Browning, who set state records with 5,737 yards 75 touchdown passes this season, was the Offensive Player of the Year on both squads.

The Modesto Bee will release its 2013 players of the year for fall sports beginning on Sunday with the Golfer of the Year. The football Player of the Year, along with the rest of the 2013 All-District team, will be announced on Jan. 19.
