While some players griped about the slick greens or the storm that brought lightning, thunder and hail to Auburn Country Club, Julie Shutler just kept attacking the difficult course and made it a point to play shots from below the hole.
"Auburn presented plenty of difficulties for the girls. The greens were slick and very subtle in places and very steep in other places," Sierra coach Greg Wilson said. "It is a tough course whether you've played there before or not. There are more than a few holes where you can look back at the tee box (upon playing the hole) and see how you could/should have played the hole differently."
Shutler, who has verbally accepted a scholarship to play at Sacramento State next year, shot a 4-under 77 to finish third at the Sac-Joaquin Section Tournament.
"Julie attacked the course strategically," Wilson said. "She did a great job of grinding."
Never miss a local story.
