After struggling through a 1-9 season last fall, the Knights' senior running back made sure this year got off to a positive beginning by piling up 240 yards offense and three touchdowns in a 33-14 victory over Tokay of Lodi. It was the first game on the artificial turf that was installed this past summer at Downey's Chuck Hughes Stadium.
"Cody's attitude is contagious because he is unselfish," said first-year coach Jeremy Plaa, noting that Ball benefited from the Knights' spread offense.
"The new offensive look opens up the possibilities for everyone. We can move Cody anywhere on the field, but because we utilize the whole field with many different formations, everyone is a weapon at any time."
Ball had 19 carries for 194 yards, including touchdown runs of 68 and 15 yards; caught two passes for 46 yards, including a 31-yard scoring catch; and had a two-point conversion run.
