Jordan Ribera hit a two-run homer with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to give the Nuts a 9-8 comeback victory over the host Bakersfield Blaze on Monday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark. The win snapped Modesto’s eight-game skid.
The Nuts scored five runs in the first on RBI singles by Michael Tauchman, Patrick Valaika and Matt Wessinger, Derek Jones’ run-scoring double and Sean Dwyer’s sacrifice fly, but Bakersfield scored seven times in the fifth to take an 8-5 lead.
The Nuts pulled within 8-7 on Dwyer’s two-run homer in the sixth.
Tauchman and Ribera each had three hits and scored two runs, and Jones, Wessinger and Dwyer had two hits apiece.
Modesto totaled 14 hits and registered its first win in July while snapping the Blaze’s seven-game winning streak.
