Modesto's Suzy Powell-Roos, the former Downey High discus star and three-time Olympian, will be inducted to the National High School Hall of Fame Wednesday in Boston.
Powell-Roos, who won two national titles in a long career that ended in 2012, set the national high school girls discus record in 1994 (188 feet, 4 inches), a mark that stood until 2009.
She was a three-time state champion and the state girls track athlete of the year in '94. She also averaged 21.6 points per game for the Knights' basketball team as a senior.
She held the American discus record and was ranked No. 1 in the event as recently as 2007. Powell-Roos will be inducted along with Baltimore Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome and NBA star Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway.
Counting this year's class, the Hall of Fame has inducted 423 since its beginning in 1982.
