Top seed hurt, exits Modesto Open Tennis Championship

After quarterfinals victory on Saturday, top-seeded Oren Motevassel had to pull out of the Modesto Open Tennis Championship due to an elbow injury.

Motevassel beat fifth-seeded Brandon Sutter 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, but withdrew following the match.

His departure sent third seed Denny Fafek into today's noon final at the Modesto Fitness & Racquet Club against either defending champ Rudolf Siwy or two-time champion Jan Tiilikianen, who will meet in at 8:30 a.m. semfinal.

In today's women's final, scheduled for 10:30 a.m., top seed Kiersten Meehan, of Monte Sereno, will face second-seeded Ane McPike, of Santa Maria.

The doubles finals will be played at the conclusion of the singles fin
