East Union High's Riley wins girls overall title at Turlock tourney

East Union High sophomore Brooke Riley rode her first-day 3-under-par 71 to the girls overall title of the Turlock Country Club Junior on Tuesday.

East Union High sophomore Brooke Riley rode her first-day 3-under-par 71 to the girls overall title of the Turlock Country Club Junior on Tuesday.

Riley, a lefty, annexed her fourth overall title of the summer by shooting 71-79 — 150, seven strokes better than runner-up Jenna Scrivner of Fresno. The boys champion was Hayden Shieh of Fremont, who ran away from the field with his closing 5-under 67.

Shieh (75-67 — 142) and Riley each was awarded a trophy, a golf bag and a $500 gift certificate to the Turlock CC pro shop.

Other age-group winners: Boys 14-15, Matt Lloyd of San Jose (76-75 — 151); boys 12-13, Brian Stark of Kingsburg (75-75 — 150); boys 10-11, Ty Griggs of Manteca (37-37 — 74); boys 7-9, Blake Knox of Nevada City (49-44 — 93), girls 12-14, Maya Pugatch of San Jose (86-79 — 165); girls 10-11, Alyssa Sales of Palo Alto (44-42 — 86); girls 7-9, Ella Vu of South San Francisco (50).
