P KYLE BARRETT
The four-year varsity starter went 11-1 with a 1.48 ERA this spring, striking out 100 in 71 innings. Barrett was named the MMC MVP after leading the Patriots to the Sac-Joaquin Section D-I semis. He also had six doubles and 18 RBIs.
P DYLAN FLORO
Buhach Colony junior
Dylan, brother of 2006 Player of the Year Brock Floro, went 12-1 with a 0.75 ERA while taking the Thunder to the D-I title series. He had 139 Ks in 93º innings while batting .299 with 21 RBIs on a team that went 27-7.
P JUSTIN JONES
The runner-up for The Bee's Player of the Year, the left-hander was 12-0 with 0.40 ERA and 124 Ks in 71 innings. He had three complete-game playoff wins while leading the Mustangs to their second D-IV section title in a row.
C WADE MORTEN
East Union senior
One of the top hitting catchers in Northern California, he pounded eight homers and batted .459 with 31 RBIs. During EU's late-season run, Morten batted .558 (24 for 43) and had six runs and nine RBIs in one game.
1B BROCK PISACCO
The All-CCC pick used size -- 6 feet,
5 inches, 240 pounds -- to drive the ball, batting .457 with 27 RBIs and 10 extra-base hits. He also stole five bases and made two errors in
175 chances, a .989 fielding percentage.
2B BLAKE BARBER
Hitting in the No. 3 hole, he set single-season school records with 40 RBIs, 15 doubles and five triples. His .468 batting average, .862 slugging percentage and 44 hits were No. 2 on Beyer's single-season lists.
3B DANTE MAJOR
The Mustangs' stout cleanup hitter had a team-high .379 batting average, hitting three homers, driving in 25 runs and scoring 21. He had a season-high five RBIs in a victory over section runner-up East Union.
SS MARKUS MELGOSA
Buhach Colony senior
The best player at the district's deepest position, he batted .431 with 17 extra-base hits -- including four homers -- while knocking in 22 runs, scoring 39 and swiping 17 bases. He hit a stunning .593 in eight playoff games.
OF TREVOR CESAR
Golden Valley senior
The Duke-bound star batted .387 with five homers and 23 RBIs and had one of the strongest arms in the district. He also pitched for the Cougars, going 7-1 with a 1.05 ERA -- the lone loss to Beyer in the playoffs.
OF BILLY FLAMION
Central Catholic freshman
He batted third and played center field for the D-IV state-champion Raiders. The .441 hitter had six homers and 40 RBIs along with five triples and 31 runs. He stole eight bases and made one error in 41 chances.
OF IAN FREGOSI
He had a District-high 42 RBIs, batting .452 with 10 doubles and only five strikeouts in 104 plate appearances. Fregosi finished with a flurry -- a .526 average (10 for 19) with four doubles and nine RBIs in five games.
Uti NATHAN GONZALEZ
He had a strong arm (6-1, 1.05 ERA, 104 Ks in 69º innings) to go with a live bat (.325 average, two homers, 22 RBIs) and typically faced the other team's ace. Gonzalez pitched six complete games and four shutouts.
Uti DAVID HAWES
Headed to Fresno-Pacific University, Hawes went 12-2 with 1.71 ERA and batted .425 with 30 RBIs to lead Mariposa to a D-VI section title and No. 6 state ranking. He was 28-8 in his career.
Uti JAKE SISCO
The Spartans' top hitter and pitcher batted .402 with 17 RBIs and went 6-1 with a 1.75 ERA. He had four complete games and 48 Ks in 48 innings, and his lone loss was to MMC champ Beyer on the season's final day.
Coach Bruce Vegely
The folks in Mariposa had high hopes for their Grizzlies, and Vegely made sure those expectations were realized. A school-record 25 wins and a section crown -- beating the state's No. 2-ranked D-IV school in the final -- were their rewards.
