Robbie Hoile and Stacie Gentry won singles matches in straight sets to help host Escalon High defeat Argonaut 6-1 on Monday in the quarterfinals of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Coed Tennis Championships.
Hoile defeated Erik Peyton 6-2, 6-4, and Gentry swept Chloe Vicari 6-4, 6-2.
"Robbie Hoile really stepped up his game and has come up strong at the end of the season," Cougars coach Dan Thompson said.
Thompson split up the mixed doubles team of Daniel and Julia Thompson, his kids, and the move produced mixed results. Julia Thompson and Katie Aprile won their match 6-2, 6-0, but Daniel Thompson and Evan Longstreth lost 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

That was the only point Escalon surrendered.
Jon Segale and Vince Aufdermaur won in straight sets, as did Kaitlyn Brayton and Megan Merseth, and Tibor Konecny and Laura Mendoza.
The Cougars (15-0) play host to the Colfax-River City winner Wednesday.
DAVIS-YOLO 9, MODESTO 0, at Del Rio Country Club -- The Panthers (20-5) were eliminated by the defending section-champion Blue Devils in the semifinals. Modesto lost all nine matches in straight sets and won only one game in doubles.
"Their doubles are strong," Modesto coach Denise Solomon. "They're a strong team."
