Giovanni Lanaro, Mexico's national record holder in the pole vault, appears bound for his second Olympics after his wins this spring at Mt. SAC and at Modesto.
In Athens, he injured his hamstring on his first attempt and no-heighted. Born in the U.S, he decided to compete for Mexico though his mother is American.
"He wanted to come to Modesto for years but there was always a meet in Mexico on that weekend," said Mireya Beltran, Lanaro's girlfriend. "He is very disciplined and is into the pole vault."
