Remember, you might want to get over to the Modesto JC track a bit earlier than you'd planned today for the 67th California Invitational Relays.
The women's discus, featuring Modesto's Suzy Powell, the two-time Olympian, was moved up to noon. She'll renew her rivalry with Becky Breisch, who threw 221 feet, 0 inches last year in Maui when Powell set her American record of 222-0. At last year's Relays, Powell's 213-10 edged Breisch's 213-1.
The opening ceremonies are at 2:10 p.m., with the final event at 6:05. There will be $15 and $25 tickets available at the gate -- the main entrance is off of Stoddard Avenue at the south end of the track.
The Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival begins at 10 a.m. The "Run to the Relays" 5K and 10K Run goes off at 11 -- registration starts at 9 a.m., with the $40 entry fee including admission to the track meet and more.
NOTES -- Two big winning streaks are on the line today -- Toby Stevenson tries to make it five years in a row in the men's pole vault (4:30 p.m.), and Khadevis Robinson tries to make it six in the men's 800 (5:40 p.m.). Both the men's (4:30 p.m.) and women's (3 p.m.) pole vault are loaded. ... Like last year, the men's shot put (3 p.m.) will be held in the middle of the infield. Favorite Christian Cantwell won at 69-10¾ last year and has a best of 73-11½. ... Walter Davis, the 2005 world champ, heads the men's triple jump (4:30 p.m. ) ... Meet record holder Jenny Adams is favored in the women's 100-meter hurdles (2:40 p.m.), with Anwar Moore going in the men's 110 hurdles five minutes later.
