CERES -- Four-year starter Caitlin Cerny gave her father a perfect retirement gift Thursday, scoring from the top of the penalty box with 8 minutes left to give Ceres High a 4-3 Valley Oak League road win over rival Central Valley.
More than 300 spectators saw CV (3-11 VOL) score twice early in the second half to tie it on Carla Martinez's goal with 14 minutes left, after Leah Rose's two first-half goals gave the Bulldogs (11-13, 5-9) a 3-1 lead.
Sweeper Cynthia Gonzalez turned back a CV attack and dribbled past seven defenders. When she reached the Hawks' penalty box, she flipped a pass to Cerny, who knocked it in.
"A lot of these girls grew up playing with each other in the travel league, so when they play against each other, it's a big deal to them," said coach Randy Cerny.

BEYER 6, DAVIS 0, at Davis -- Jennie Marshall had four goals and two assists as the Patriots (22-2-1, 14-0-1 Modesto Metro Conference) rolled.
ENOCHS 3, JOHANSEN 1, at Enochs -- The Eagles (7-6-2 MMC) beat the Vikings (2-11-2 ) for second place and a playoff berth. Enochs, in its first varsity season, rebounded from an 0-4-1 MMC, going 7-2-1 the rest of the way.
Kayla McCain made 12 saves, and sophomore Marissa Soria had a goal and two assists.
RIPON 3, RIPON CHR. 1, at Ripon Christian -- Meredith Perkins scored twice as the No. 2 small-school Indians (18-4-1, 13-1 Trans-Valley League) topped the Knights (1-13).
MODESTO CHR. 5, RIVERBANK 3, at Riverbank -- Monique Marchetti and Alexia Rovedatti scored early in the second half to lead the No. 5 small-school Crusaders (12-7-1, 7-5-1 TVL) over the Bruins (1-15, 1-13). MC hosts Escalon Tuesday, with the winner going to the playoffs as the No. 3 seed.
Sierra Licata sent a pass to Marchetti about 15 yards from the goal, and she sent a shot across the face of the goal and into the right corner.
DELHI 5, WATERFORD 1, at Waterford -- Vivian Mehuia had a hat trick and Crystal Cardenas scored twice in the first half in the Hawks' SL win.
ORESTIMBA 11, GUSTINE 2, at Newman -- Juliana Santos hit her section-leading 10th home run and had three RBIs as the Warriors (21-3, 12-0 Western Athletic Conference) topped the rival Redskins (12-13, 5-8).
HILMAR 7, CENTRAL CATHOLIC 0, at Hilmar -- Courtney Ramos was dominant, striking out 13 and allowing two hits and going 3 for 4 with two RBIs as the No. 3 small-school Yellowjackets (15-5, 9-3 WAC) rolled.
SIERRA 3, EAST UNION 2 (10 innings), at East Union -- After the Lancers (21-4, 10-2 VOL) took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 10th, the Timberwolves (15-9, 9-3) scored twice in the bottom of of the inning on Heather Scharmann's RBI single to left and Karissa Valdez's double to right. EU's Erin Arevalo had 22 strikeouts and a no-hitter through eight innings.
OAKDALE 9, CENTRAL VALLEY 6, at Ceres -- Mackenzie Taylor's two triples led the Mustangs (15-10, 6-6 VOL) over the Hawks (2-16, 1-11).
DENAIR 1, MARIPOSA 0, at Mariposa -- Kortne Bacca pitched a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts and scored the run as the Coyotes (7-14-1, 7-6 SL) pulled into a tie for second with the Grizzlies (9-14, 7-6). Denair won the season series 2-1 and has the tiebreaker edge.
WATERFORD 9, DELHI 0, at Waterford -- Kendra Curtis homered and pitched a three-hitter and struck out seven for her third consecutive shutout as the Wildcats (11-9, 7-6 SL) blanked the Hawks (6-10, 3-8). Savannah Miller keyed a four-run fifth with a three-run double.
MODESTO CHR. 17, RIPON CHR. 1, at Ripon -- Sloan McHann hit a three-run homer as the Crusaders (9-5, 10-2 TVL) rolled. McHann is second in the Stanislaus District with six homers and third with 39 RBIs.
DAVIS 7, MODESTO 0, at Modesto -- Desi Maldonado threw a one-hitter and had a two-run double as the Spartans (15-10, 11-2 MMC) won the title.
DOWNEY 6, JOHANSEN 2, at Johansen -- Holly Clark had a two-run homer in the first and an RBI triple in the second to lead the Knights (11-10, 6-7 MMC) over the Vikings (12-12, 5-8).
