I would like to commend the Modesto Bee for its article on the Jepson family, and being a teammate of the lone heiress, I know firsthand of their passion and dedication. However, I feel the article fell short of the true story at hand and the matter which matters most. Their apparent obsession with basketball has little to do with basketball and much more to do with family.
Having hit a rough patch during my high school years and having no real solace or sanity to speak of, the Jepsons opened their home and hearts to what at the time appeared to be just a screwed up little kid almost nobody wanted anything to do with. Without their generosity and forgiveness, I'm unaware of how things may have turned out, as their home was open to me at all hours for all causes.
However, I know that with it, I have learned more about life than even they know about basketball. I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to them and all of the other families who take time out of their lives to appreciate each other in trials and triumphs, especially my own. That is what life is truly about.
