Gabriella Pimentel's two-run, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the sixth inning brought Central Catholic High to within a run, but the potential tying run was thrown out at third base Thursday.
Mikayla Parreira then shut the Raiders (5-3) down in the seventh and Gustine (8-2) escaped with a 7-6 victory in the Western Athletic Conference opener.
Gustine's Desirae Walsh lined a two-run triple over the left fielder's head in the top of the sixth inning for a 6-3 lead, then she scored on a single by Veronica Perry.
ORESTIMBA 9, PATTERSON 3, at Newman -- Carra Collison had a two-run single in the third, and Juliana Santos hit a three-run homer in the fourth as the Warriors (8-1) opened WAC play with a win over the Tigers (2-5).
HILMAR 10, LIVINGSTON 0, at Hilmar -- Courtney Ramos fired a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts, while Ashlee Lee, Madison Harris and Lindsay Miguel provided consecutive run-scoring hits to spark a five-run third and lead the Yellowjackets (7-2) past the Wolves in a WAC opener.
DOWNEY 6, ENOCHS 2, at Downey -- Jordan Flora hit her first homer of the season, a two-run shot that cleared the fence and capped the scoring as the Knights (3-2) opened the Modesto Metro Conference by beating the Eagles. Hollie Clark's RBI triple in the third gave Downey a 1-0 lead, but the Eagles reached Rachel DeJong for two runs in the fourth and the Knights had to rally.
BEYER 3, MODESTO 2, at Beyer -- The Panthers (1-7) scored twice in the top of the seventh and had runners at second and third before Melayna Saalfeld finished a four-hitter with a grounder to second for the final out in the MMC opener. Saalfeld struck out eight for the Patriots (6-1-1), and Modesto's Amanda Pridmore struck out nine.
JOHANSEN 3, DAVIS 2, at Davis -- Carissa Dunn threw six shutout innings of relief and the Vikings (6-2) knocked off the Spartans (1-4) in the MMC opener.
SUMMERVILLE 11, SONORA 1, at Tuolumne City -- Corrine Brick lost a no-hit bid in the top of the fifth, but the Bears (3-5) scored eight in the bottom of the inning to beat the Wildcats. Brick struck out five and didn't allow a walk.
RIPON 14, RIVERBANK 0, at Ripon -- Zach McCormick hurled a five-inning no-hitter, striking out seven, and homered as the Indians (2-3) pounded the Bruins (1-4) in a Trans-Valley League opener.
