Cal State Stanislaus trails Cal State East Bay by four strokes heading into today's final round of the Notre Dame de Namur Invitational golf tournament in Livermore.
The fifth-ranked Warriors totaled a 583 score in the first two rounds Monday at Poppy Ridge Golf Course. No. 1-ranked Sonoma State is third at 588. Stanislaus is looking for its second tournament title in three events.
Stanislaus is playing without Jason McHargue, who injured his back during practice last week, but Ryan Nickell shot a 1-under-par 143 and is tied for fourth place. Nickell carded a 73 in round one and a 2-under 70 in the afternoon.
Brent Witcher of Valdosta State is the individual leader by two strokes after shooting an 8-under 64 in the second round. Witcher is at 8-under 136.

Stanislaus senior Erick Justesen is tied for sixth at even-par 144, Jesse Contreras shot a 147 (tied for 11th), and Ben Van Vuren carded a 149 (17th) to give the Warriors four players in the top 20. Andy Moren is tied for 31st at 152.
High School Golf
ESCALON 217, CALAVERAS 218, at La Contenta -- Matt Jones and Donovan Gardner made big par putts on the ninth hole to help the Cougars (5-0) edge the Redskins (4-3) in a nonleague match. Escalon's Austin Jackson made two birdies in a 2-over 38, and Chris Inocencio led Calaveras with a 1-over 37.
TURLOCK CHRISTIAN 216, ORESTIMBA 298, at Stevinson Ranch -- Andre Navarro had seven pars and two bogeys in a 2-over 38 that carried the Eagles (3-0) over the Warriors.
CENTRAL CATHOLIC 206, OAKDALE 242, at Dryden Park -- Victtor Lopez shot an even-par 36 to lead the Raiders (5-0) over the Mustangs. Lopez was 2 under after three holes, but he birdied Nos. 5 and 7.
High School Baseball
PITMAN 12, MANTECA 4, at Manteca -- The Buffaloes (4-4-1) stayed with the Pride (5-3) until the top of the sixth, when Pitman scored seven runs. Eric Watts pitched five innings for Manteca, and Pitman led 5-4 before the rally.
"I was impressed with how Eric kept the ball down, but I take my hat off to Pitman for swinging it well late," Manteca coach Neil MacDannald said in an e-mail. "It's tough to give a team like that four or five outs and expect to be successful."
Austin Keaton scored four runs, Ian Fregosi homered and had six RBIs, and Lincoln Clapper homered for Pitman.
High School Softball
LOS BANOS 1, MODESTO 0, at Los Banos -- Tera Vermillion doubled home Sierrah Garcia with two out in the bottom of the seventh to give the Tigers (4-4) a win over the Panthers (3-5). Amanda Pridmore of Modesto and Garcia pitched matching two-hitters and struck out 10 each. Pridmore walked Garcia to start seventh, and Garcia stole second before Vermillion's blast to left-center.
High School Girls Soccer
MODESTO CHRISTIAN 6, GUSTINE 0, at Gustine -- Sophomore Sierra Licata tacked on two more goals and three assists as the Crusaders (5-1) shut out the Redskins. Licata, who had seven shots on goal, has 10 goals and eight assists this season.
High School Coed Tennis
MODESTO CHRISTIAN 4, RIPON CHRISTIAN 3, at Del Rio Country Club -- The Crusaders (4-1, 1-0 TVL) took three of five doubles matches from the Knights (1-3, 0-1).
