CERES — Escalon High placed all five golfers in the 30s and defeated Hughson 182-187 on Thursday in a tight Trans Valley League match at River Oaks.
There were five strokes difference between Austin Jackson's 34 and the Cougars' fifth-best score, and it was enough for Escalon (4-0, 2-0 TVL) to hand the Huskies (4-1, 2-1) their first loss.
"Escalon is just deep; they're very deep," Hughson coach Glen Hollenhorst said, adding that scores would have been a stroke or two better if the temperature was warmer.
Hughson junior Donnie Flora made two birdies in an even-par 31, and he lipped out a birdie putt on the last hole.
HILMAR 231, ORESTIMBA 263, at Santa Nella — Clayton Aguilar of Orestimba had a birdie on No. 8 and shot a 2-over 38, but the Warriors (0-3 Western Athletic Conference) lost to the Yellowjackets (2-1).
TURLOCK 199, LOS BANOS 245, at Turlock Country Club — Sam Smith, The Bee's player of the year last spring, shot a 1-over 37, and freshman brother Paul Smith shot a 39 as the Bulldogs (6-0, 2-0 Central California Conference) beat the Tigers (1-1 CCC).
SONORA 207, OAKDALE 235, at Mountain Springs — Kevin Rei's 1-under 35 included a birdie on the 177-yard No. 5 as he helped the Wildcats (1-1 VOL) beat the Mustangs (1-1).
BUHACH COLONY 208, PITMAN 226, at Rancho Del Rey — Teddy Schrier finished a 2-over 38 with a birdie on the 441-yard, par-4 No. 9 in helping the Thunder (4-1, 1-1 CCC) top the Pride (1-3, 0-2).
CENTRAL CATHOLIC 220, LIVINGSTON 239, at Atwater — Victtor Lopez had two birdies and shot an even-par 36 to lead the Raiders (3-0 WAC) over the Wolves (2-1).
SIERRA 207, CERES 271, at Lake Don Pedro — Joey Matts' 4-over 40, including a birdie on No. 8, helped the Timberwolves top the Bulldogs.
TURLOCK CHR. 223, WATERFORD 288, at Stevinson Ranch — Andre Navarro's 1-over 37 included birdies on Nos. 3 and 6 as he helped TC (2-0, 1-0 Southern League) top the Wildcats (1-1, 0-1).

OAKDALE 13, MODESTO 0 (4½ innings) — Kevin Coffee and Justin Jones knocked in two runs for the Mustangs (3-1-1) as part of a 12-hit attack.
PITMAN 11, JOHANSEN 0 (6 innings) — Ian Fregosi was 3 for 3 with a triple and four RBIs for the Pride (4-1), and Nathan Gonzalez allowed two hits and struck out nine.
LINCOLN 5, TURLOCK 0, at Turlock — Mike Huddleson pitched a five-hitter to lift the Trojans (2-0) over the Bulldogs (1-3). Huddleson only struck out two but worked out of jams and Turlock hit into three double plays.
SONORA 5, LODI 4 — Dalton Bentley's two-run double highlighted the Wildcats' four-run second.
SIERRA 3, RIO AMERICANO 1, at Sierra — Jordan Ribota and Mike Garcia combined on a six-hitter with six strikeouts as the Timberwolves (5-0) beat the Raiders (1-2) to remain undefeated. Andy Scott drove in a run in the third and another in the fifth.
HILMAR 5, NORTH VALLEY (Nev.) 0, at Walker Vick Tournament — A.J. Miranda's two-run double in the fifth gave the Yellowjackets (4-2) a 3-0 cushion. Justin Rodrigues threw a four-hit shutout with four strikeouts.
LOS BANOS 8, LE GRAND 1, at Los Banos — Kyley Mendez homered to left-center in the fifth for the Tigers (3-4) after blasting a triple in the third. Sierrah Garcia of Los Banos struck out 13.
EAST UNION 7, VINTAGE 2, at Napa — Erin Arevalo (4-0) allowed her first earned run of the season but still struck out 13 as the Lancers (4-0) rolled over the Crushers. Brittany Lamar hit a two-run homer in the fifth for East Union.
ORESTIMBA 5, MODESTO 0, at Orestimba — Kara Spinelli fired a one-hitter for the Warriors and Julianna Santos was 3 for 3 with a homer and a double.
GUSTINE 6, TURLOCK CHR. 1, at Gustine — Mikayla Parreira pitched a four-hitter and Veronica Perry homered for the Redskins.
BEYER 6, MODESTO 1, at Beyer — Ebie Harris scored four goals, Jennie Marshall had a goal and three assists, and Sam Garcia had three assists as the Patriots (8-2, 1-0 MMC) pounded the Panthers (3-3-1, 0-1). With Harris and Marshall leading a strong attack, Beyer scored three goals in four minutes in the first half.
MODESTO CHR. 5, CALAVERAS 1, at Modesto Christian — Sophomore Sierra Licata scored four goals for MC (4-1), and Kelsey Meyer had three assists.
RIPON 5, LE GRAND 2 — Sophomore forward Ranae McFadden had her second consecutive hat trick, helping the Indians (3-1-1) top the Bulldogs (0-2). McFadden has 10 goals this season.
WATERFORD 1, RIVERBANK 0, at Waterford — Nayely Larios of the Wildcats (2-0-1) scored with a shot into the bottom right corner of the net midway through the second half, and goalkeeper Andrea Preciado had seven saves.
CERES 13½, SIERRA 1½, at Sierra — Sophomore Luis Ochoa swept three sets in singles as the Bulldogs (2-0 VOL) beat the Timberwolves (1-1 VOL). Ochoa has surrendered just three games in six sets.
LOS BANOS 3, ATWATER 3 (Los Banos won 8-7 in sets), at Los Banos — Erik Parreira of the Tigers defeated the Falcons' Chris Perk 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 in the final match.
