CERES — Escalon High placed all five golfers in the 30s and defeated Hughson 182-187 on Thursday in a tight Trans Valley League match at River Oaks.
There were five strokes difference between Austin Jackson's 34 and the Cougars' fifth-best score, and it was enough for Escalon (4-0, 2-0 TVL) to hand the Huskies (4-1, 2-1) their first loss.
"Escalon is just deep; they're very deep," Hughson coach Glen Hollenhorst said, adding that scores would have been a stroke or two better if the temperature was warmer.
Hughson junior Donnie Flora made two birdies in an even-par 31, and he lipped out a birdie putt on the last hole.
