MERCED -- Kenyatta Harper had 19 points and 13 rebounds in helping the Merced College women's basketball team defeat Butte 84-69 Saturday.
Rachel Martinez also scored 19 points for the Blue Devils (13-10).
Merced outrebounded Butte 40-30 and committed 11 turnovers to 23 for the Roadrunners. Eight of Butte's turnovers came on Harper steals.
Kendall Aguilar had 18 points, all from her six 3-pointers, for Butte.
JC Men's Basketball
FRESNO CITY 108, MERCED 60, at Fresno -- The Rams' relentless full-court press forced the Blue Devils into 28 first-half turnovers as they rolled to a 68-25 lead at intermission.
"It's something that you try and prepare for in practice," said Merced coach Bill Russell, "but you can never prepare for the type of intensity that Fresno City brought to the game on Saturday."
Artie Williams had 30 points for the defending state champions as they improved to 20-5 overall and 2-0 in the Central Valley Conference.
Julius Cheeks had 30 points for Merced (6-12, 1-1), including all eight of his team's 3-pointers.
WEST HILLS 87, COLUMBIA 58, at Coalinga -- Raj Palmer had 21 points and Marcus Cendro 16, but they couldn't prevent the Claim Jumpers (0-2 CVC) from falling to the Falcons (1-0).
High School Boys Basketball
PITMAN 62, ATWATER 38, at Atwater -- The Pride (2-1 Central California Conference) sank nine 3-pointers in stopping the Falcons (0-3 CCC).
"They had six 3s in the first half (which ended with Pitman up 39-21)," said Atwater coach John Kane. "We knew they liked to get to the rim so we tried to keep them from inside, so they kicked it out and started making shots from the outside."
Austin Keaton had 12 points for Pitman.
GOLDEN VALLEY 72, BUHACH COLONY 64, at Golden Valley -- Damarya Moody hit three 3-pointers during a 28-point third quarter that helped the Cougars (9-10, 1-3 CCC) surge ahead of the Thunder (0-3 CCC). Moody finished with 15 points -- Liautaud Prophete led GV scoring with 20.
LOS BANOS 55, TURLOCK 38, at Turlock -- The victorious Tigers dictated a slow-down tempo in holding the Bulldogs to 17 points through three quarters, then were 17-of-25 from the foul line in the fourth. Andrae Jones had 15 points for Los Banos in the CCC win.
LEXINGTON CATHOLIC 59, MODESTO CHRISTIAN 57, at Lexington, Ky. -- Reeves Nelson scored 23 points, but the Crusaders blew a 37-26 halftime lead and fell to the Flying Knights in the Nissan on Nicholasville Shootout.
