NEW YORK -- Philadelphia shortstop Jimmy Rollins, New York Mets third baseman David Wright and Seattle outfielder Ichiro Suzuki won Silver Slugger awards Friday, complementing the Gold Gloves they earned earlier this week.
Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran, Detroit second baseman Placido Polanco and Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Russell Martin also won both awards.
The Silver Sluggers are presented by Louisville Slugger to the best offensive players at their position in each league. Managers and coaches vote.
Alex Rodriguez won his ninth Silver Slugger after leading the majors with 54 home runs and 156 RBIs for the Yankees. He won for the second time as a third baseman; his other seven awards came at shortstop.

Maria Sharapova routed Ana Ivanovic 6-1, 6-2 at the Sony Ericsson Championships in Madrid and avoided a semifinal matchup with defending champ Justine Henin. Ivanovic faces Henin today at the WTA's season-ending championships; Sharapova plays fellow Russian Anna Chakvetadze.
"I don't have to worry about who I play against," Sharapova said. "If I play like today, I'll be fine."
Seattle was granted an expansion franchise by Major League Soccer and could begin play as soon as the spring of 2009. The league is bringing a team back to San Jose for the 2008 season to create two conferences of seven teams each. MLS plans to expand to 16 teams in the next few years. ... David Beckham was recalled to England's national team for next Friday's friendly against Austria and the potentially decisive Nov. 21 Euro qualifier against Croatia. The qualifier could be meaningless -- for England to have a chance to advance, Israel must beat Russia five days earlier. Wayne Rooney injured his ankle in training and will miss the Croatia match.
Evan Lysacek edged Johnny Weir in a duel between the current and former American champions in the men's short program in the Cup of China in Harbin. Lysacek's routine to music from Zorro films included a quad-triple in addition to two other triple jumps. On the quad, though, he needed to put his hand down to keep his balance. Lysacek scored 81.55 points, Weir 79.90.
Middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik needed 108 stitches after cutting his hands and arms trying to repair and clean old windows at his Youngstown, Ohio home. Trying to open one, he sustained three cuts to both forearms and hands.
His trainer insists the boxer will be ready for the rematch with Jermain Taylor on Feb. 16. Pavlik (32-0) knocked out Taylor (27-1-1) in the seventh round Sept. 29. The rematch is expected to take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Sam Hornish Jr. joined Jacques Villeneuve and Juan Pablo Montoya as former Indy 500 winners to earn a spot in Sunday's Nextel Cup race at Avondale, Ariz. -- marking the first time in NASCAR history three former Indy champs will be in the field. Carl Edwards won the pole with a fast lap of 132.773 mph. ... Four-time champion Sebastien Bourdais set a track record at Mexico City's Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez with a lap of 1 minute, 24.698 seconds in the first qualifying session for Sunday's Champ Car race. ... Kyle Busch led the final 42 laps to win the Craftsman Truck Series race in Avondale. Ron Hornaday was second and series points leader Mike Skinner eighth.
