The Stanislaus District's best golfers will be in Auburn today for the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament. Local teams competing are Turlock, Johansen, East Union and Central Catholic. Top individuals include Belen Hernandez (Golden Valley), Julie Shutler (Sierra), Katie Canadas (Beyer) and Kirsten Locke (Bret Harte). Shotgun start at Auburn Country Club is at 9 a.m.
Giants win in London
The NFL's first regular-season trip overseas was every bit as sloppy as it was predictable. Eli Manning threw for only 59 yards but ran for New York's lone touchdown to lift the Giants to a mud-caked 13-10 victory over the still-winless Miami Dolphins.
Brady, Pats stay hot
Tom Brady (pictured) threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more as the New England Patriots crushed the Washington Redskins 52-7 in an easy tuneup for their battle of unbeatens at Indianapolis next Sunday against the defending Super Bowl champion Colts.
Colts crush Panthers
Peyton Manning shook off a slow start to throw for 254 yards and two touchdowns in the Indianapolis Colts' 31-7 win over the Carolina Panthers. Joseph Addai (pictured) rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns and caught a TD pass from Manning.
Johnson closing in
NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson celebrates after winning the Pep Boys Auto 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Ga., on Sunday. Johnson's second consecutive win moved him within nine points of Nextel Cup points leader Jeff Gordon with three of the 10 Chase races remaining.
