Brad Fuller had six goals to lead Johansen to a 10-7 win over Fresno High on Friday at the DeLong Memorial Water Polo Tournament at Johansen High.
Sean Solario scored twice for the Vikings (24-2), who earlier beat Tokay 10-4 and will join Sonora in the semifinals of the elite eight-team A Division. Johansen and Sonora (17-2) are the only local teams in the semifinals.
Johansen and Fresno were tied 7-7 in the third quarter, but the Vikings got three quick goals in the fourth to secure the win.
"The game was pretty close for a while," Fuller said. "We adjusted defensively at halftime and that helped us out. We stepped it up defensively and countered really well."
Never miss a local story.
Fuller and Sean Towers each scored four goals in the win against Tokay.
Johansen will play Marin Catholic today at 9:40 a.m.
In Sonora's first game, Shaun Vitek scored the game-winner in overtime to beat Fairfield 9-8.
The second game proved to be easier as the Wildcats took down Clayton Valley 13-8 as Preston Hough and Justin Andradre each scored three goals.
"Defensively, we took away opportunities and I think that's the reason we were successful," Sonora coach Matt Personius said. "We had pretty balanced scoring. We're excited to play tomorrow."
Sonora will take on No. 2 seed Granite Bay today at 10:30 a.m.
Also in the A Division, Turlock lost 12-3 to Newberg, Ore., and beat Golden Valley 5-2 as Brian Keesey and Zac Young scored twice. Turlock (13-8) plays Modesto High today at 8 a.m. at the Tokay High pool.
