Central Catholic High's Jessica Ferlmann spent much of Monday scrambling around Dryden Park Golf Course, but the sophomore never lost her cool.
"When I asked how she was hitting it, she said she was having to scramble," Central coach Jim Pecchenino said. "She was consistent, and that was the key."
Ferlmann shot a 91 to win the medalist honor and lead the Raiders to the title at the Valley Foothill League South Division Tournament. She shot 45 on the front nine and 46 on the back, despite a finishing triple-bogey 8 on No. 18 on the par-74 course.
"It was her last hole. She just had trouble getting through it," said Pecchenino, who had four players finish among the top five individuals. "We don't have a senior, so I was very impressed with our tournament."
Central shot a 403 total and beat Hughson by 92 strokes. Central, Hughson and Patterson, and the top six golfers not on those teams, advance to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V Tournament on Monday at the Diablo Grande Ranch Course.
Ferlmann, who was at 83 and looking at a potential round under 90 while walking toward the 18th tee, had four pars.
"She averaged about 46 in nine-hole matches, so it was nice to see her put two scores together like that," Pecchenino said. "Her length off the tee has increased significantly over last year."
Hughson's Erica Ballard was second at 96, followed by Central Catholic's Holly Wilcox (98), Brittany Storer (103) and Giovanna Pecchenino (111).
