Modesto Junior College’s Brianna McGinness finished her community college career by playing her best basketball, and she was rewarded.
McGinness, a 5-foot-11 sophomore from Calaveras High School, was named to the All-Big 8 Conference first team. She averaged 11.6 points and eight rebounds in league play and was selected for an academic all-conference honor.
She’s been invited to play in the California Sophomore Showcase on March 14, an event held in conjunction with the state tournament.
Claim Jumpers honored – Columbia College point guard Marquell Hubbard was selected to the All-Central Valley Conference first team, and second-year coach Rob Hoyt was named co-Coach of the Year. Hubbard, a freshman from Florida, averaged 17.3 points per game. He also was chosen as the CVC Freshman of the Year.

Hoyt led Columbia to a 16-11 record and a third-place finish in the CVC, Columbia’s best record in years. He shared the coaching honor with Fresno’s Ed Madec.
Other awards for Columbia: Mike Meserole (10.3 points) was all-frosh and honorable mention; Ian Merzwinski and Rosendo Amaya-Wood were named to the all-defensive team, and Tony Williams was an honorable mention.
