Stanislaus jury sentenced killer to death in 1986. He died at a hospital this week

Royal Hayes, 81, sentenced to death by a jury in Modesto, CA, in 1986, died while still awaiting execution at San Quentin State Prison on Tuesday, May 22, 2018. The penalty phase had been moved from Santa Cruz County because of a jury deadlock there.​
