A pedestrian died after being struck by two cars on McHenry Avenue in Modesto on Wednesday night, police said.
The man, described in his late teens or early 20s, was crossing the busy roadway just south of Briggsmore Avenue at about 8:20 p.m. when he was hit in the northbound lanes.
Fire and emergency crews arrived shortly after and performed CPR at both the accident scene and the hospital. However, the man died from his injuries, according to Lt. Jeramy Young of the Modesto Police Department.
Police have a preliminary identification of the victim, but are not releasing the name until his family has been notified.
He's the second pedestrian to be struck and killed by a vehicle in Modesto in the the last week. Last Friday, a woman walking across Standiford Avenue with a friend was hit by a vehicle at Longbridge Drive just east of Carver Road. She died later that night from her injuries.
On Halloween night, a boy riding a bicycle was left with critical injuries after being struck by a vehicle at Briggsmore and Roselle Avenue. A short time later, further north on Roselle, a woman suffered injuries after she was struck by a vehicle, near Belharbour Drive.
In Wednesday's accident, the drivers of both vehicles involved were cooperative and no drugs or alcohol are suspected of playing a role at this time, Young confirmed.
McHenry Avenue between Briggsmore and Granger Avenue was shut down for several hours following the accident, Young said.
