The San Francisco Giants defeated the San Diego Padres 3-0 on Sunday, the last day of the regular season, to win the National League West title. Brian Wilson closed out the victory with his 48th save. Jonathan Sanchez, who pitched five strong innings, was the winning pitcher for the Giants.
The Padres, who bedeviled San Francisco all season, had one the first two games of the series at AT&T Park.
The Giants finished with a 92-70 record, two games ahead of the Padres, who did not make the playoffs.
The Atlanta Braves, who defeated the Phillies 8-7 on Sunday, won the NL wild card and will face the Giants in San Francisco on Thursday.
The Phillies, who won the East, will host the Central-winning Reds on Wednesday.
