The devastating cyclone that killed thousands in Myanmar has not moved anyone to inquire at the Modesto office of the American Red Cross about sending aid to the survivors.
Rebecca Ciszek, executive director of the Stanislaus County chapter, said her office had not received any calls as of this afternoon from local residents asking how they can help.
"Folks will want to do things like donate clothing," Ciszek said. "But the reality is, in a disaster this large -- while people do need those things -- it's not what they need right now.
"What's needed is aid, both human and financial resources. That's what gets the medicine and bulk food supplies there."
Never miss a local story.
Those who want to make a donation can do so through the local Red Cross office, 1230 Sixth St., Modesto or go to their Web site, www.arcscc.org and click on the "donate now" link or call 523-6451.
