MERCED -- A woman was killed in a mobile home fire at 1900 Ashby Road this morning, firefighters said.
Two men -- the woman's husband and the owner of the mobile home -- were taken to a hospital.
The woman and her husband were visiting the mobile home's owner, accordign to witnesses. The fire started sometime around 8:30 a.m.
"By the time we got there, it was already burned up," said Leo Ragalado, 62, manager of the mobile home park.
Never miss a local story.
Ralph Burgette, 71, a resident of the Golden Wheel Mobile Home Park, tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher and a garden hose.
The mobile home was locked, so park residents broke a window to spray water inside. When Burgette arrived, he saw two men standing outside, yelling and crying.
"One man was yelling pretty bad about it, because they couldn't get the girl out," he told the Merced Sun-Star.
