A motorist careened off the road and into a house in south Modesto last night, according to police and fire crews.
Nobody appeared to have been hurt, said Battalion Chief Mark Johansen with the Modesto Fire Department.
Fire crews and police responded to the report about 11 p.m. and found a car had left the road at the corner of Inyo Avenue and Dallas Street, hit the house and sheared the top off a gas main, Johansen said. He said crews were able after some work to shut off the gas before it created a problem.
The car’s driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to Sgt. Kelly Scott of the Modesto Police Department. Further details were not immediately available.
