The U.S. military today said two soldiers were killed in Afghanistan, including Sgt. Robert T. Rapp, 22, of Sonora.
Rapp is the 23rd person from the valley and Sierra foothills to die in the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq since 2003.
The Department of Defense said Rapp and Spc. Steven R. Koch, 23, of Milltown, N.J., died Monday from combat wounds. They were in the Sabari District of Afghanistan, near the border with Pakistan and southeast of the capital city of Kabul.
The men were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, based at Fort Bragg, N. C.
