Police have arrested a teen and are searching for a 20-year-old in connection to a fatal shooting in broad daylight Friday afternoon.
A Modesto man was killed in the airport neighborhood at Larkin and Thrasher avenues. He was pronounced dead at Memorial Medical Center.
A boy was arrested at 4 a.m. today by Modesto Police Department officers, according to Sgt. Ed Steele. Police are looking for Juanmingo Becerra, 20, of Modesto. While both were involved in the shooting, police believe Becerra is the shooter, Steele said.
The homicide is the result of among Norteño gang members, Steele said. The victim lived at Larkin and Thrasher, he said.
Residents said they heard at least three gunshots and ran out to find the victim lying in the middle of the street. They said the victim was carrying what appeared to be a foot-long steel pipe when he was shot.
The victim’s autopsy was being performed this morning, Steele said.
Police still weren’t identifying the victim this morning. The juvenile suspect’s name was not released by police because of his age.
