The film "Amreeka" continues a short run at the State Theatre with a 3:30 p.m. show Saturday.
According to the State's Web site, "first-time director Cherien Dabis treats her subject the struggles and triumphs of recent Palestinian immigrants mother, Muna (Nisreen Faour), and her teenage son, Fadi (Melkar Muallen) with a nimble touch, a gentle sense of humor and an unblinking sense of the reality of their situation. National Geographic Entertainment's first venture into feature films portrays Muna as loving and resilient as she and her son leave their increasingly dangerous home in Bethlehem to settle in to life in small-town Illinois. There are episodes of discrimination and racial slurs for Fadi as he adjusts to school; Muna, who holds two degrees, can't find a job and ends up taking a low-paying job at a White Castle."
Tickets are $7. The film is rated PG-13 and run time is 1 hour, 30 minutes.
