1 Zasu Pitts
The Bay Area's best known rhythm and blues band, the Zasu Pitts Memorial Orchestra compares itself to the great soul revue groups of the 1960s. This show is a benefit for Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children, the Children's Crisis Center and the Society for Handicapped Children.
2 'Little Women'
Modesto's Emily Kay Shrader plays Beth in Sierra Repertory Theatre's musical production of "Little Women." Based on the popular Louisa May Alcott novel, the show follows four sisters as they face triumphs and tragedy during the Civil War.
3 Spooktacular
The Modesto Symphony Orchestra presents its family friendly Symphonic Spooktacular: "Monsters!" concert. The fun begins with pre-show activities, including pumpkin painting, costume contests and kids games. The concert features dancing monsters and creepy classical music including the "Monster Mash."
4 World beats
Doctors Medical Center presents "World Beats: An Evening of International Percussion" as a benefit for the Modesto Symphony Orchestra. The event features a light supper, wine and performances by percussionist William Hill and MSO conductor David Lockington, who plays the cello. Hill also will appear with the symphony at next weekend's performance. For more on the show, read the story on page E-9.
5 Halloween fest
The Kiwanis Club of Oakdale hosts its annual Halloween Parade and Festival. The procession will feature a host of fanciful creatures, including ghosts and goblins. The festival immediately following will include hot dogs, games, candy, face painting, a costume contest and more.
6 Los Muertos
Fomento Cultural Mexicano Quetzalcoatl brings the Mexican tradition of Day of the Dead to life. The festivities kick off with a procession led by Aztec Xipotec. Altars honoring the deceased will be on display in the lobby of the Gallo Center. Performances will feature indigenous, mestizo and folkloric dance and music.
