Sara Tavares, who grew up in Portugal and is of Cape Verdean descent, performs Nov. 7 at Turlock Community Theatre. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Tavares composes world beat music, mixing the rhythms of Cape Verde, Angola and Brazil with American R&B. Her latest album "Balance" came out in 2006.
