It's billed as Stanislaus County's biggest party of the year. Woodward Reservoir's Independence Day celebration starts off with recreational activities organized by the Police Activities League and concludes with a fireworks show.

Fairground fireworks and more

Turlock is celebrating the nation's birthday with a full day of activities. Start the morning off with a parade on Main Street, then shop at the street fair sponsored by the Turlock Downtown Property Owners Association. The fair will include food, vendors, family activities, classic cars and classic rock. Cap off the evening with a fireworks show at the Stanislaus County Fairground.

Parade, picnic, lasers

The Modesto Jaycees' 135th annual Fourth of July celebration features a downtown parade, a family-friendly Picnic in the Park at Graceada Park and a music and a laser show in Enslen Park. The theme of the parade is "Celebrate the Past, Present and Future." The grand marshal is Marie Gallo, president of the Gallo Center for the Arts.

A look backstage

Get ready for the July 12 opening of Modesto Performing Arts' stage production of "A Chorus Line" at Modesto High (preview on Page E-14) by seeing this documentary on the famous Tony Award-winning musical. This movie chronicles the arduous process of selecting dancers from more than 3,000 hopefuls for the 2006 Broadway revival. The film also covers the creation of the original show in 1975 and the genius of the late Michael Bennett, who put it together.
