HOME BASE: Tracy and Modesto
PLAYERS: Mike Holsworth, bass guitar; Scott London, guitar; John Holm, drums; Timmy, vocals
SOUNDS LIKE: We try to sound as close as possible to the bands we play. Our strongest material is our hard rock. Crowd favorites are Alice In Chains, Drowning Pool, Disturbed, White Zombie, Godsmack, Stone Temple Pilots, but we also do very good versions of selections by Pink Floyd, ZZ Top, Tom Petty and pop bands like Lit, Collective Soul and Tonic.
BACKSTORY: Slackenloader formed in October 1997. After months of Timmy playing along with an "open-mike jam night" band, the club owner approached them to cover a Friday night act that had cancelled. That successful performance led to another gig the next month, then another, and the band began taking regular shows at various East Bay and Central Valley bars and events by the new year. Since that time, the band has performed 45 to 50 times a year, usually four 45-minute sets an evening. It also performed for six seasons for the Black Hole Tailgate Club before Oakland Raiders games. The group performed for various motorcycle clubs in Northern California and Nevada, grand openings, weddings, the Almond Blossom Festival in Ripon and the Tracy Dried Bean Festival. Twice nominated for a Modesto Area Music Association Award and winners of the Modesto Bee Readers Choice Poll for favorite local band in 2004, 2007 and 2008.
QUOTE ME: "We're gonna keep playing until someone yells at us to stop!" says Timmy.
