2 Docs play pops
Dr. Calvin Lee, a Modesto surgeon, acupuncturist and violinist who recently performed in the YouTube Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, headlines the annual Docs Play the Pops benefit for Modesto Junior College's Friends of Music. Other performers are medical-related professionals, including operating-room technicians, surgical assistants, relatives and friends of people who work in local hospitals. Proceeds will go to music student scholarships and programs of the MJC music department.

3 Heavy metal
The Michael Schenker Group, featuring one of the founding members of the heavy-metal group Scorpions, plays a rescheduled show presented by the Hawk 104.1 FM radio station. Born in Germany, Schenker taught himself to play the guitar and started performing in the Scorpions when he was still a teenager.

4 Scottish games
Put on your kilt and bring out the bagpipes for the St. Andrews Society's annual Modesto Scottish Highland Games and Gathering of the Clans. Watch athletic competitions like the caber toss and Scottish hammer event, shop for Celtic imports and get information about more than 40 clans. There also will be children's activities, food and beverages, and concerts. Musical performers include Avalon Rising and Paul Espinoza of Golden Bough.

5 Cirque music
Aerialists fly overhead and perform acrobatic feats to the accompaniment of the Modesto Symphony Orchestra in the "Cirque de la Symphonie" concert. Conductor Steven Reineke directs the program, which closes out the orchestra's pops series.
