Big Band Broadcast re-creates the glamour and fun of a 1940s radio broadcast with a few commercials thrown in. Canadian singer Holly Larocque and bandleader Mark Ferguson lead a 13-person orchestra in the songs "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," "And the Angels Sing," "In the Mood" and others.

 2  Laugh a lot

Laugh along with the West Coast All Stars of Comedy Tour. Headlining the show is Seattle comic Ralph Porter, with Key Lewis, Mike Betancourt and Butch Escobar. Hosting the World of Laughs event will be area favorite Sam Bam. Porter has been featured on the BET show "One Mic Stand."

 3  Bay blues

Bay Area blues staple the Daniel Castro Band brings its scorching sound to Newman. Frontman Castro's guitar playing has been compared to greats like Albert King and Albert Collins. The group has toured extensively throughout the U.S. and as far as Japan. Castro has shared the stage with John Mayall, Joe Lewis Walker, Walter "Wolfman" Washington, The Staple Singers and many others.

 5  Zombie fun

Brains! Brains! Beer! Wait, what? Enjoy the irreverent high jinks and old-school frights of the British comedy-horror flick "Shaun of the Dead." The cult favorite follows two blokes who find themselves in the middle of a full-scale zombie invasion. Their goal? Get to the pub, naturally. The film closes out the State Theatre's Midnite Movie Classic Cinema Series.

 6  Opera twofer

Townsend Opera Players' offers a double bill of "Pagliacci" and "Amahl and the Night Visitors." First performed in 1892, "Pagliacci" tells the tragic story of a clown whose wife commits an act of infidelity with another member of their theater troupe. Commissioned in 1951 as an opera for television, "Amahl" tells of a young crippled boy and his miraculous journey of faith.
