More than 1,000 people attended Saturday's foreclosure prevention workshop in Modesto, but that won't be the last chance for Northern San Joaquin Valley homeowners to get help saving their homes.

Several government and nonprofit organizations have scheduled free events to assist homeowners who are having trouble making their mortgage payments.

Some of the events include face-to-face meetings between homeowners and lenders. Other events will offer individual credit counseling sessions or group workshops. Homeowners should bring their loan documents and financial information with them.

Here's a sampling of what is planned in the region and elsewhere in Northern California:

Assemblywoman Cathleen Galgiani, D-Livingston, has scheduled several workshops where free counseling will be offered. Lenders also have been invited:

Saturday -- Starting at 10 a.m., Tracy City Council Chambers, 333 Civic Center Drive.

April 12 -- Starting at 10 a.m., Merced City Council Chambers, 678 W. 18th St.

April 19 -- Starting at 10 a.m., Los Banos City Council Chambers, 520 J St.

California state agencies are coordinating a series of fore- closure prevention workshops. Free credit counseling will be offered and lenders, including HSBC and Countrywide, are expected to attend:

Thursday -- 4 to 8 p.m., Sherwood Hall, 940 N. Main St., Salinas.

No Homeowners Left Behind-Stanislaus is planning monthly workshops in Modesto. Free counseling will be offered and lenders have been invited:

April 26 -- 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Harvest Hall, 3800 Cornucopia Way.

Consumer Credit Counseling Service is offering free counseling workshops in several Northern California cities. Call 800-540-2227 to register:

April 12 -- 11 a.m. in English and 1 p.m. in Spanish, Cathedral of Faith, 2315 Canoas Garden Ave., San Jose.

April 22 -- 6 p.m. in English and 7:30 p.m. in Spanish, Community Health Trust, 85 Nielson St., Watsonville.

April 26 -- 6 p.m. in English and 7:30 p.m. in Spanish, Community Health Trust, 85 Nielson St., Watsonville.

May 10 -- 11 a.m. in English and 1 p.m. in Spanish, Santa Clara Central Library, 2525 Homestead Road, Santa Clara.
