If students do the math and figure it's better to rent than own that Algebra or accounting textbook, the bookstore at California State University, Sacramento has a rental option this year.
Rent-A-Text is being offered this fall at the Hornet Bookstore, allowing students to rent texts such as "Elements of Modern Algebra," the "Marx-Engels Reader," "History of Africa" and "Therapeutic Modalities."
The rental option is offered on about 500 textbook titles at more than 55 percent off retail. A title that retails for $100 new and $75 used can be rented for $42.50, according to a CSUS news release.
The Hornet bookstore is one of seven Follett Higher Education Group-managed bookstores to pilot a full program offering rental books.
