Why are parents out of control?

Why is it that so many parents and coaches of young children seem to lose all perspective at their children's sporting events? They scream and yell and rant and cuss at the referees and umpires, and even at children on the other team.

This seems to be a particular problem in the 9-10 age bracket. I've never seen such rudeness from otherwise nice people. They don't seem to realize that in a few short years, their own child might be the teen referee or umpire who is getting screamed at for minor mistakes.

Please take a moment to realize two things: one, the referee is a kid, too; and two, it's just a game, people.
