Protecting real, eternal truth

Pope Benedict recently opened the door for dialogue with Episcopalian and Anglican priests to consider reuniting with the original Christian church. This speaks loudly in favor of the ecumenical spirit he has brought to the papacy, continuing Pope John Paul II's similar efforts.

I would think that many devout believers are sad that their denomination has taken the path of voting on its doctrines and truths of faith. If society redefines morality, and it seems like a good idea, then why not model our denomination after society? If it feels good, do it!

Unfortunately, what seem like good, modern ideas are really just sad replications of old, bad ideas that have never worked and never will. I would suggest that no priest who truly understood what the Catholic church teaches would ever leave it. Where else could he go? To a lesser truth? It ain't perfect because it's run by humans, but the truth it protects is real and eternal.
