The Bee's Oct. 25 assessment of the North County Corridor was totally cavalier to citizens whose lives will be completely disrupted by this route adoption. At the Riverbank public hearing, a clear majority supported an east-west route, but not the route at the planned site, which will harm established neighborhoods and prime farmland.
Additionally, the editorial characterized people who were opposed to the project as misinformed people who misunderstood the process. In fact, the citizens whose lives will be most affected by this route have been the most diligent in studying the environmental impact reports. We have listed the flaws and contradictions to Caltrans and at all the relevant meetings.
The Bee neglected to present a complete view of the situation when it devoted a half page to Matt Machado's (project manager for the North County Corridor) Q&A. Why wasn't anyone given the opportunity to offer a counterpoint? The people who made the decisions on this project are local bureaucrats. Yet the people whose lives are most affected by this expressway are given no say. The Bee should at least have given us a voice.
