In response to "Water users, look at your bill" (Oct. 30, Letters): Yes this is grossly unfair. It is, in fact, discrimination.

The definition of discrimination is to distinguish between things, differentiate or to act prejudicially. The city of Modesto sent out a letter telling all of us that have meters that we were to billed by the meter reading for our water.

They are using AB 2572 as justification for this action. This section allows the city to bill one customer more for their water but the house on each side less for their water on the flat rate.

The date for completion of the water meter project is Jan. 1, 2025. This bill is to be implemented throughout California. If this bill is not to be considered discriminatory, all residents in the state must have a meter before the rate can be changed.

If you want to help stop this, call your representative in the state Assembly and Senate and voice your concern about being discriminated against. We, the people, have the final word. These people in Sacramento serve at our pleasure and we can vote them out if we are not satisfied with their performance.
