Ordinary things have changed colors since I was a kid. Blackboards were black and chalk was white (and definitely not hypoallergenic); now they are green and chalk is yellow. Fire engines were red, not chartreuse! Mailboxes were olive drab green; now they are blue, purple or black.
Margarine was white -- your mother had to add the yellow dye after she brought it home. I'm not kidding. You can't make this stuff up! Telephones were black and definitely not mobile unless you had an extra long cord. Television pictures were black and white unless your neighbor had a colored TV, which confirmed that "Howdy Doody" was a redhead.
Blondes were either natural or bleached -- not two-toned -- unless the bleached blonde decided to revert to her natural color. Now women and guys "highlight" their hair on purpose. Five, 10 and 20 dollar bills were green -- now, they are green and peach tones with purple numbers. Doctors and nurses wore white, not green scrubs or colorful floral designs. Levis were dark blue, hence were called "blue jeans." Finally, my hair used to be red, now it's white.
