It was sad to read in The Bee on Oct. 25 about the drug problems at Mono Park ("Activists earn selves nickname," Page A-1).
Back in the late '40s early '50s, there was a neighborhood gang that played in the park from sunup to sundown. My brother Bill and I, Bill and Bob Heath, Ben Zakarian and about five others played baseball, football, ditch, and hide and seek, and we climbed every tree in the park. We had no TVs, so we had to entertain ourselves through activities that were fun for us.
Our Mono Park gang produced two baseball major leaguers and two minor-league players; and all of us have been successful in our occupations and family life.
It's a shame for us to see what our favorite playground has become.
