Regarding Mark Vasché's column "A troll is a troll is a troll is a troll" (June 28): I find your description of trolls most disturbing. I honestly believe you wouldn't know a troll if it introduced itself to you.
Trolls are a political machine and elected officials deciding to attempt destruction of another elected official with false charges and lies. Your call for civic-minded leaders to seek office rings false in my ears. Anyone so inclined only has to remember the charges brought against Carmen Sabatino to realize the consequences of bucking the political machine in charge of Modesto and Stanislaus County.
Newspaper editors who are given proof of corruption and refuse to print it are trolls. You see good qualities in people supporting the status quo. Anyone opposed to the status quo is a troll in your opinion.
A troll is an individual who does not know right from wrong. A troll cannot distinguish between good and evil. A troll only worries about his/her skin; no one else counts.
The Bee could have been such a power for good in this community. Instead, its leadership chooses to fall in line with self-centered, power-hungry leaders who do not have the interests of Modesto or Stanislaus County at heart. The slow demise of The Bee is the result of not being important to most of the citizens of Modesto and the surrounding area.
